Before crossing into California, topped the gas tank in Brookings Oregon to avoid their $4+ per gallon. The law in Oregon requires service station attendants to put gas in your tank. I think I broke the law in Brookings where the station only had one attendant who was filling R.V. propane tanks and everyone with cars at the pumps was waiting. Also, I have not seen any ethanol added gas since Nebraska and pure unadulterated unleaded is available there as well. Octane ratings for regular were all over the lot as well; 85, 85.5 & 87.
I got my first glimpse of the mighty redwoods along Route 101 going into Crescent City, CA. The highway is lined with them on both sides. It felt like driving through the canyons of New York City only with a more spiritual feel to it. I later learned from a brochure I picked up at the hotel that particular stretch of Highway 101 is called the Avenue of Giants. Another good day
